Quick look at features:
- 4G enabled
- 7” Display
- Android 4.4
- 8.0 MP primary cam, 2.0MP secondary cam
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quad core
- 2 GB RAM, 16GB ROM
- Dual SIM
Redmi 2 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. It’s a 64 bit Quad Core running up to 1.2 GHz and with 2GB RAM. For its price, the handset has been equipped with comparatively powerful processor. With 16GB of internal storage and external memory expandable up to 32 GB, Redmi 2 goes the distance.
The first thing you are likely to notice is how light the phone actually is. It’s made of plastic with huge number of color options for back cover. Cover can be removed to replace battery SIM and micro SD card. The body creaks in parts for a wee bit.
The 4.7” display comes with the resolution of 720×1280. It looks sharp and bright, however noticeable pixelization exits. Luckily, the bluish stretch in display can be fixed by working with settings. The display can be extremely bright and very readable. The colors are vibrant even at odd angles.
Android 4.4 Kitkat coupled with MIUI 6.0 skin would easily be the star of the show. The stock end of android doesn’t feel like it, thanks largely to MIUI skin. Redmi 2 has the requisite 64 bit processor for Android 5.0, but Xiaomi hasn’t official announced available updates yet.
The 8.0 MP primary cam with LED flash and F2.2 lens has 28 mm of focal distance. The camera app looks more like iPhone-ish interface. Similar options are present to manage exposure. It totally mimics the design approach of iOS, with equal ease of use. The colorful snaps look to be overblown than how it looks naturally. The focus cannot happen quick, but it’s justified with price tag. Camera does amazing job indoors and even under scarce light conditions. Redmi 2 can record 1080p videos on 30 frames per second.
The 2200 mAh removable battery is quite the feature. Even under heavier use, it can last a whole day. On the software side, you can choose between ‘balanced’ and ‘performance’ mode in settings. It takes bit more than couple of hours to charge up battery from zero to hundred.
Redmi 2 is a super affordable phone, available for $130 + free shipping on Gearbest. $130 is the full off contact price of this handset. For its long lineup of features, the phone is a steal. Redmi 2 performs fairly well, though, some price associated limitations exist. A lot of apps are still in Chinese, which really bothers international buyers. If you are looking for an economical, yet feature filled smartphone, Redmi 2 is your best bet..
